Bullying Prevention-Intervention Plan
The Auburn School Committee approved the District’s Bullying Prevention-Intervention Plan on December 20, 2010. This plan was approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as indicated in a memo received from them dated March 17, 2011. As required by DESE, this plan has been kept updated with the latest update being approved by the School Committee on August 13, 2014.
Please know that as a school community, we are committed to provide a safe environment in which our students can thrive, thus reaching their full potential.

Bullying: A Guide for Parents
Dr. Elizabeth Englander is a Professor of Psychology, and the founder and Director of the Massachusetts Aggression
Reduction Center at Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. She is a nationally recognized researcher and trainer in the field of childhood aggression, bullying and cyberbullying. Dr. Englander has trained tens
of thousands of teachers, students, and parent and community groups. She presents at many national conferences and is the author of dozens of journal articles and book chapters, including the book Understanding Violence.

Summary of Bullying Prevention-Intervention Activities
As a school district, we believe that our students deserve to learn and grow in a physically and emotionally safe environment. To that end, we have a Safety Team comprised of representatives of the police, fire and school departments. This team meets regularly to assess our buildings and programs, offering suggestions for continued improvements. In addition, we have a Bullying Prevention-Intervention Plan in place, with myriad activities having taken place throughout the school year to regularly address this important topic. Finally, our elementary and middle schools embrace the Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) which promotes positive behaviors, with a team from Auburn High working with Dr. Poteat from Boston College on a comprehensive cutting-edge program for that level.
