Update from Mr. Desto - March 17, 2020

Notification from: Auburn Public Schools - AMS

March 17, 2020

Dear AMS Families:

By now, you have likely read the message from Superintendent Brunelle, which shares many details of how our school district will be helping our students and community cope with this unprecedented time in our history. I just wanted to send a quick, school-specific follow-up to emphasize some very important points.

I have sent a letter via school email to all of our students. Many will read it, some may not. Just in case, I have attached a copy to this message so that you may try to ensure your children do check out what I feel is an important message to them from their principal. Thank you for your help.

Teachers will be reaching out to students regularly in order to provide some normalcy and maintain the connection to school. They will be encouraging students to partake of some excellent, nontraditional learning opportunities. While each family is unique and must therefore make its own schedule, I do hope you will encourage your children to take advantage of these opportunities to keep their minds “in shape.”

I will be reaching out to the students from time to time just to check in and keep them in somewhat of a school state-of-mind.

Please review Dr. Brunelle’s notice for important information related to food pickup and delivery for those who may need the extra support during this tough time.
If you suddenly realize that your child has forgotten something critical at the school (IE: medication, eyeglasses, iPad, etc.), please let me know and we can work out a time for pickup.

Last, our guidance department has put together some helpful resources for families as we all try to make sense of this situation for our children. As with anything, some kids will handle it without worry and others will be extremely anxious. Please check out the information linked below and do not hesitate to reach out to me and/or your child’s school counselor if you feel your child may need additional support.

Thank you and all my best to you and your family.

Gregg Desto
