REGISTRATION DATES

2017-2018 School Year

  • Wednesday, September 27th, 9:20- Bay Path Presentation in the AMS Cafetorium for all 8th graders
  • Friday, October 13th, 8:30-11:30- Tour of Bay Path for those students interested
  • Friday, October 20th, 1:30- Guidance will meet with interested students to distribute applications
  • Friday, December 8th, Applications due to AMS Guidance
  • December through early March- Interviews by Town at Bay Path
  • Late March, Students are notified of acceptance status. If necessary, a wait list is established.

Guidance Services and Assisting Students

  1. Counsel students regarding educational issues such as course selection and prepare them for educational experiences.
  2. Counsel students regarding personal issues such and social and behavioral problems.
  3. Provide special services such as bullying and organizational and transitional preparation.
  4. Counsel students to understand themselves by discussing their educational growth as a student and an individual.
  5. Consult with teachers and parents about supporting their student’s growth as a student and an individual.

Quest Class

This is a course for grade 6 students taught by the guidance counselors for 1 Trimester during a unified arts block.  In order to interact with more students, at the mid-point in the Trimester (30 days), the guidance counselors switch and teach the others class.  One of the major goals of this course is for students to get to know the guidance counselors and vice versa. Some of the  topics covered in this course are:  Friendships, Discussion of bullying, Career Exploration, Emotions, Tolerance, Study Skills, and Peer Pressure.

7th Grade

  • Monitor organization
  • Create goals to become more independent and take on responsibility
  • Developing grade oriented objectives to prepare for 8th grade

8th Grade

  • Connections for the future (after graduation)
  • Develop skills for transitioning to High School/ Vocational School
  • Assist with thinking about career paths and goals

 Strengthening Potential and Advancing Relational Knowledge

SPARK is a Social Emotional Learning class that is part of the AMS guidance curriculum. Class topics include:

  • Self-awareness: The ability to accurately recognize one’s emotions and thoughts and their influence on behavior. This includes building personal strengths by evaluating how ones values and attitudes impact motivation and relationships.

  • Self-management: The ability to regulate one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations. This includes managing stress, controlling impulses, motivating oneself, and setting and working toward achieving personal and academic goals.

  • Social Awareness: The ability to take the perspective of and empathize with others from diverse backgrounds and cultures and to recognize family, school and community resources and supports.

  • Relationship Skills: The ability to establish and maintain healthy relationships. This includes communication, listening actively, resisting social pressure and negotiating conflict.

  • It teaches students to be well-rounded socially, emotionally and intellectually, while preparing kids for life.
